The monument to A.A. Plastov was opened on the 31st of January 2003 in honor of the 110-years anniversary of the birthday of Arcady Alexandrovich Plastov. The author is sculpture A.A. Bichukov. The monument is made in realism traditions. The artist is represented with a brush and an easel. |

The monument-bust to I.A. Goncharov was opened on the 12th of September 1948, in the year of 300 anniversary of Simbirsk foundation, near the building of the regional library - The Palace of Books. Bronze bust is placed on a pedestal made of light-pink granite with an inscription "Goncharov I.A. (1812 - 1891)". The author is sculpture A. Vetrov. |

The monument was opened in 1986 and it was a gift of Armenia to Ulyanovsk. It is placed in Gaj Prospekt St. in honor of the first commander of "Iron Division" that released the city from white guards on the 12th of September 1918. Six-meter figure of bronze rises on cylindrical pedestal, decorated with bas-reliefs - scenes of battle life of the division. The author is an artist from Armenia, Suren Kazaryan. |

The monument to I.A. Goncharov was opened in June 1965. The sculpture of the author, sitting in the chair and making notes, was moulded from cast iron by unique Italian method of moulding for wax at Mytischinsky plant of art castings. The monument is placed on the pedestal made of red granite. The author is sculptor L.M. Pisarevsky. |

The monument to K.Marks was opened on the 7th of November 1921. It is one of the first sculpture images of K.Marks in the Soviet Russia. Authors of the monument are the soviet sculptor S.D. Merkorov and the architect, Professor V.A. Schuko. The mythological plot about Atlas is combined with decorative methods of classicism and early modernism. K. Marks in interpreted as Titan of thought and spirit. |

The monument to Lenin was opened on the 22nd of April 1940 and represents a work of socialistic realism. The authors are: sculptor M.Maniser and architect Vitman. This is "Lenin in October, in impetuous surrounding, steady on his legs and looking afar with confidence". Variant of this sculpture in Brussels International Exhibition in 1958 won the highest reward - "Grand Prix". |

The monument to N. Narimanov was opened in Ulyanovsk in 1977. It is a gift of workers from Azerbaijan SSR and it is placed in the avenue, named in honor of this statesman, writer and publicist. The monument is made as a high-relief of Narimanov against the background of stylized flag made of red polished granite. |

In Venets during 1918-1922 were buried several dozens of people, deceased during the Civil War. In that way, there was formed a certain privileged cemetery in the center of the city. In 1927 the graves were made even and on the common grave was erected a monument to Red Army soldiers, perished in battles for Simbirsk release in 1918. The architect is F.E. Volsov (1927). In 1968 at the monument-obelisk was kindled an Eternal fire of glory. |

The monument to Ulyanovsk tank men is situated in the square near the Victory Park in the north part of the city. The tank IS-3 was placed in honor of 30th Victory anniversary in the Great Patriotic War on the 9th of May 1975. |

The monument to I.N. Ulyanov was opened in 1957. The author is - sculptor M. Manizer. On the high granite pedestal is placed a bronze bust of I.N. Ulyanov. Below is a bronze figure of a boy with a book, symbolizing peasant children, accustomed to reading, writing and education by efforts of Ilya Nikolaevich Ulyanov. The monument is situated in 12 Sentyabrya St., at the entrance to the public garden. |

Initiators of erection of the monument to N.M. Karamzin were: Major-General P.N. Ivashev, three Yazykov brothers, prince Yu. Khovansky and other, who made initial payments for monument building. Nikolay the First, who had visited Simbirsk in 1936, ordered to arrange a square on this place, in the center of which should be established the monument; he also ordered to make a contract with Professor S.I. Galberg for monument erection. |

The monument to M.A. Ulyanova and V.Ulyanov is a culpture composition "Maria Alexandrovna Ulyanova with her son Volodya". The monument is moulded of bronze and is situated in the square of 100-years anniversary of Lenin birthday. Low pedestal was made of granite. It was opened on the 16th of April 1970. The Monument (obelisk) of Eternal Glory was opened on the 9th of May 1975 on the high Volga slope. The monument is made in two planes: on the upper plane is placed 47-meters obelisk, is situated a wide ceremonial stairs and multi-figure sculpture group, representing warriors, freezing in a rush attack. On the lower one in granite square is mounted bronze cup of Eternal Fire, and on granite wall are inscribed names of 57 Ulyanovsk citizens - the Heroes of the Soviet Union. |

The monument to A.S. Pushkin was presented as a gift to Ulyanovsk regional museum of local history by an author, the President of the Art Academy of Russia, Zurab Tseriteli. The bust of A.S. Pushkin was placed in a yard of the literature museum "Dom Yazykovyh" (House of Yazykovs) (the branch of the regional museum of local history) and was opened on the 12th of June 2005. |

On the 4th of September 2005 in front of the building of Ulyanovsk regional scientific library took place an opening ceremony of the monument to the "Letter Yo (this is a Russian letter that doesn't have equivalents in English)". This event happened on the 160th anniversary of the opening and consecration of the monument to historiograph N.M. Karamzin. N.M. Karamzin was the first author and editor who had used the letter "Yo". In 2005 210 years have passed since it was published for the first time. |

On the 10th of November 2005 in Ulyanovsk was erected a monument to Mikhail Andreevich Gimov, who was the head of Simbirsk regional executive committee during the Civil War (1918 - 1921). On the 30th of October 2005 in Ulyanovsk was erected a monument to victims of political repressions in the USSR. The monument represents a part of a concentration camp wall with barbed wire and searchlight. It is situated near the building which was earlier occupied by People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs. As is well known to Ulyanovsk citizens, in the cellars of the building of People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs during the years of mass communist terror were shot people. The author of the monument is the main artist of the regional architecture department Igor Smirkin. |

There is a monument in Ulyanovsk to a legendary off-road car UAZ-469. It is situated in front of the entrance gates in Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant. On the pedestal is placed a traditional Ulyanovsk off-road car of khaki color. This is not a model, but a real car with all corresponding parts inside it. At any moment the car can be taken away from the pedestal and one can go to a trip by it. |

Monument to destroyed temples of Simbirsk was opened on the 5th of October 2006. Poklonny Cross, established in 1999 at Goncharova Str., was substituted for a multideck chapel with gilded cupola and the cross. |

On the 5th of October, the international teacher’s day, in Ulyanovsk took place the solemn opening ceremony of the regional alley of teacher’s glory. It was a unique present for pedagogues from grateful citizens. Heroes of Socialistic Labor N.N. Kuzmina and G.M. Lazareva, honored teachers and teachers of the year were not forgotten. Alley of glory is of the regional level, that is why not only the best city teachers, but also the best regional teachers were marked on the Board of Honor. The holiday turned out to be a family one, because not only teachers, but also parents with children visited it. The alley opening was celebrated by congratulations of the city and regional politicians, concerts of different collectives and colorful firework. |

Ulyanovsk is known not only for really gifted people, but also for respect towards these people. One of the visual evidences of this fact is a theater Square of Star, which was opened in 2006. History of this monument is not ordinary. Idea of this project appeared long time ago, but its realization became possible some time later. There were attempts to make it real within the framework of the program «Cultural capital of the Volga federal district», and within the framework of the theater anniversary in 2005. But only the third try was successful, thanks to patrons of art among local businessmen. The solemn opening ceremony f the Square of Stars became one of the best events of the city. |

On the 1st of October was opened the monument to Chuvash teacher, founder of Chuvash character — Ivan Yakovlevich Yakovlev. Ulanosk regional Chuvash national and culture autonomy initiated perpetuation of the memory of the great compatriot. The honored artist of Chuvashia and Bashkiria, famous sculpture Vladimir Nagornov, realized this idea. Monument to the pedagogue was established at the area of Simbirsk Chuvash School, which was founded by Ivan Yakovlev in 1868. Here were trained teachers of different ethnic nationalities for work with nations of the Volga and Ural regions. At the beginning of the 20th century the school became the center of culture and education of Chuvash nation of the Volga region. In this unique institute were born Chuvash professional music, art, humanitarian sciences, translation mastership, Chuvash theater and opera. Today here works a museum, where was reconstructed the memorial apartment of Ivan Yakovlevich Yakovlev. Main temples of Simbirsk were situated above steep bank slope and could be seen from the Volga River from the long distance. At the place of the present Lenin Square were situated two cathedrals — summer Troitsky and winter Nikolsky, and the square around them were called Sobornaya. Before the revolution in Simbirsk worked 33 churches (10 parish and 23 domestic), two cloisters, theological seminary, and two religious schools. By 1940 remained only small Voskresenskaya church at the cemetery. Four buildings were greatly changed, but also remained until present days: «Neopalimaya Kupina» church (which is now a cathedral), Voskresenskaya (Svyato-Germanovskaya) church, Church in the name of the Holy Spirit coming upon apostles attached to the former Chuvash teacher’s school and Kirillo-Mefodievskaya church at the former religious school.
