Andrey Blazhenny (Andrey the blessed)

Blessed Andrey was born in the family of poor Simbirsk citizen Ilya Ivanovich Ogorodnikov. His parents were devotees and brought up their children Andrey, his elder brother Faddey and sister Natalia in true Orthodox believe. When Andrey was a child he couldn't move without somebody's help, he was dumb, though he could pronounce two words - "mama" and "Anna", he repeated them all the time, when he wanted to eat, or sleep, or just called somebody.

Goncharov I.A.

He is a Russian writer. He was born in the family of Simbirsk merchant. He studied at the Moscow commercial college and then in literary department of Moscow University. After he had graduated from the university, he worked in the chancellery of Simbirsk Governor A.M. Zagryazhsky. Then he continued his work in the Ministry of Finance, and after that he worked as a censor and an editor of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Davydov D.V.

He was the hero of the Patriotic Was of 1812, a lieutenant-general, a poet, a prose writer. He descended from the military family. In 1801 he came to military service, he was an adjutant of Prince P. Bagration. He took part in the wars of 1806-1814, in the Persian campaign of 1826-1827, the Polish war of 1831. He gained wide popularity in 1812 as a leader of partisan group, organized by his own initiative.

Karamzin N.M.

Nikolay Mikhailovich Karamzin (1766 - 1826), a Russian historian, a writer, a critic, a journalist, an honorary member of Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1818). He created the "History of the Russian State" (volumes 1-12, 1816-29), one of the important works in Russian historiography. He is a founder of Russian sentimentalism ("Letters of Russian Traveller", "Poor Liza", and etc.). He worked as an editor of "The Moscow Magazine" (1791-92) and "The European Messenger" (1802-1803).

Kerensky Alexander Fedorovich (4.05.1881 Simbirsk - 11.06.1970 New-York, he was buried in London)
He was a lawyer, party and statesman of Russia, later he became a literary man and a publicist. He was born in the family of the director of Simbirsk gymnasia; he had lived in Simbirsk until his father was transferred to Tashkent in 1889.

Minaev D.D.

Minaev Dmitry Dmitrievich (02.11.1835-22.07.1889)
He was born and buried in Simbirsk.
He was a poet and a satirist, a journalist, an interpreter, and a critic.
He was born in the family of the officer - Poet Minaev Dmitry Ivanovich (1808 - 1876). He was brought up in the Nobleman's regiment. For a short time he was working in Simbirsk Public Chamber and in State Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Plastov A.A.

Plastov Arkady Alexandrovich (31.01.1893 г. - 12.05.1972 г.) was born and buried in village Prislonikha, which is now a part of Karsunsky District of the Ulyanovsk region.
He was a Russian artist, a national artist of the USSR (1962), a full member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1947).
In 1908 he graduated from Simbirsk religious school, he studied in Simbirsk theological seminary, in Moscow Stroganov central artistic-industrial college (1912-1914) and at the sculptural department of Moscow College of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1914-1917).

Vladimir Ilich Ulyanov-Lenin
(22.04.1870, Simbirsk - 21.01.1924, Gorky, the Moscow region)
He was a political figure and a statesman, the Chairman of the Board of People's Commissars of the RSFSR.
He was born in Simbirsk in the family of inspector of public schools of the Simbirsk region I.N. Ulyanov. He spent his childhood and youth age in Simbirsk.

Court man, a boyar and a warrior
He descended from the Moscow nobleman's family, from the generation of Edugan from the "Golden Horde". He was good educated for that time. He began his career in 1946, he was a military leader in Temnikov, where he dealt with fortification of southern borders of Russia.

Yazykov N.M.

Nikolay Mikhailovich Yazykov
(16.03.1803, Simbirsk - 07.01.1847, Moscow)
He was a Russian poet, representative of the closest poetical company of A.S. Pushkin. He descended from old nobleman's generation. He was brought up in St. Petersburg in Gorny corps, but he didn't complete it, then he entered Derpt University, which he also didn't graduate.

Yakovlev

Ivan Yakovlevich Yakovlev (25.04.1848 village Koshki-Novotimbaevo (the Buinsk district, the Simbirsk region - 20.10.1930, Moscow)
He was a teacher, an enlightener of the Chuvashs, a public man, a founder of new Chuvash character.
He was born in the peasant's family. In 1867 (when he was 19!) he entered the 5th grade of Simbirsk gymnasium, which he completed in 1870 with a gold medal. In 1875 he completed historical and philological department of Kazan University.
