The railway station "Ulyanovsk-Centralny" is included in the complex of constructions, which were built to the 100-years anniversary of V.I. Lenin's birthday. The architects were M.A. Gotlib and Yu.Ya. Meliushkin, the authors of the project were staff of Mosgiprotrans insistute.
The solemn opening ceremony took place on the 17th of April 1970.
The railway station "Ulyanovsk-Centralny" can receive 2300 passengers at a time.

The airport was built in Ulyanovsk in the 60-s. More than several dozens of years "Centralny" was the main passenger airport that connected Ulyanovsk with the largest cities of Russia. In the 90-s (after bankruptcy of JSC "Simbirsk-Aero") the central airdrome became desolate, air medical service and agricultural aviation were liquidated.

CJSC "International airport "Ulyanovsk-Vostochny" -is an airport for international and domestic passengers' and cargo flights. Its history began in 1980, when in Ulyanovsk aviation-industrial complex (UAIC) "Aviastar" was established "Department of ground-based and flight tests". In 1983 was put into operation the unique landing runway 5100 m long and 105 m wide.

Inter-city buses start from the Bus station, which is situated in Zasviyazhsky district, near the crossroad of Pushkareva St. and Moskovskoe Shosse St. All regional centers are connected with Ulyanovsk by regular bus service. The most popular routs outside the Ulyanovsk region are trips to Samara, Togliatty, Syzran, Cheboksary, Kazan, Alatyr, Saransk, N. Novgorod, Orenburg, Astrakhan, and others.

Trams run in the city since 1954, and only in its right-bank part. The very first route connected the north depot with an old railway station. Today there are reckoned 22 routs, from which every day constantly work # 2 ,4, 6, 9, 10, 11, 15 - all others work on a special schedule. Railway movement was opened in Simbirsk on the 28th of December 1898. On this place was built a brick one-storied building of the railway station.
During the post-war years in the city, which again had become a regional center, was built a new building of the railway. Construction works began in May 1951, and at the end of 1952 the railway station was put into operation.

The railway station "Verkhnyaya terrace" is situated in the district of the same name, in Dmitrovskoe shosse, it is opened twenty-four hours a day. There is a small waiting room, stalls, police point.

Extension of the Volga River at the territory of the region is more than 200 kilometers with an outlet to five seas. That is why the largest river ports are Ulyanovsk and Sengiley. Ulyanovsk port was reconstructed in 1961. It is equipped with powerful portal cranes, excavators, special auto-loaders, conveyors, which allow processing of thousand tons of different loads.

Trolleybuses work in the city since 1974 and only in the left-bank part of the city. There is 12 routes, among which are #1a, 2a, 4, 4a, and etc.

About five years ago in Ulyanovsk appeared new type of services in the sphere of passenger transportation - route and private taxi. Their main routes run along the tram lines. Today passengers are serviced by about 600 mini buses on 50 routes. Big number of route taxi which appear in the latest years considerably reduced transport problems.
