In the widest part of Kuibyshev water reservoir between Undory Village and Staraya Maina Village before flood there were many islands with unusual contours of the banks. Islands were separated from each other by channels - volozhoks, usually 50-100 m wide. The main river-bed of the Volga here was not more than 1 km wide. Among channels and branches the most picturesque was the Paltsinsky Island, which was called so by the villages Bolshoe and Maloe Paltsino. Length of the island is 9 km, width is 4,5 km. In the island there were many lakes, where lived waterfowl game birds, and there were juicy motley grass meadows. |
